There is an extensive network of buses, subways, and private railways in addition to tour buses and taxis linking almost all of the major sightseeing spots. 1-day free cards for the city bus (JPY500) and the subway (JPY600), and prepaid cards for them are available at various places such as the ticket machines of subway stations.
Kyoto also has a compact and flat cityscape, and many attractive sightseeing spots are positioned close together. Therefore, Kyoto is well suited for sightseeing on foot or by bicycle.
